Halloween safety tips from Abari Orthodontics

happy halloween Pictures, Images and Photos

Trick-or-treat! In the spirit of this weekend's sweet and spooky holiday, Drs. Abari and Will and our staff at Abari Orthodontics would like to remind all of our patients in both San Dimas and Diamond Bar to be safe while celebrating with friends and family. The American Association of Orthodontists were kind enough to provide trick-or-treaters with some tips for a ghoulishly good time.

A few Halloween safety guidelines:
• Young children should always be accompanied by an adult
• Carry a flashlight
• Wear a light-colored or reflective costume
• Choose face paint over masks for young ghosts and goblins
• Have an adult inspect all treats before the children dig in

Many treats can cause havoc for trick-or-treaters who are going through orthodontic treatment. If you happen to damage your braces, please give us a call immediately. Typically, small problems can be solved over the phone.

We wish you all a safe, fun and happy Halloween weekend!

Halloween Do's and Dont's, from Abari Orthodontics

All those sweet, sour and sticky candies may taste great this Halloween season, but these treats can damage your teeth and braces too! Did you know sour candies can be acidic to your teeth, and actually wear down the enamel that protects them? This can cause tooth decay and cavities! After eating these candies, be sure to wash your mouth out with water, drink milk or eat a few slices of cheese. These will help neutralize the acid in your mouth (wait at least one hour before brushing your teeth with toothpaste, as this can actually increase the effects of acid on your teeth)

Besides cavities and tooth decay, many people do not realize that good oral health and hygiene are important to your overall health too! Research is discovering the connection between periodontal disease and other major health concerns, such as heart disease! Therefore, it is important to maintain a good oral hygiene routine: see your dentist every six months, brush and floss daily and use an antibacterial mouthwash.

Instead of all that unhealthy candy, try any of these delicious and braces-friendly Halloween recipes, courtesy of the American Association of Orthodontists! Happy Monday!

October is National Orthodontic Health Month! From Abari Orthodontics

With October being National Orthodontic Health Month at Abari Orthodontics, we thought we'd remind our patients to be careful when they bite into their treats this Halloween season.

Remember, caramels, taffy, nuts, bubble gum, popcorn kernels and suckers are some of the foods you should be avoiding this Halloween Season! Indulging in these foods can break your braces and lengthen your treatment time at Abari Orthodontics!

Of course, Halloween doesn’t have to be completely treat-less. Our friends at the American Association of Orthodontists have provided a helpful list of tips and braces-friendly recipes for you to enjoy. Check them out, and we hope you're having a relaxing weekend!

If you have any follow-up questions, please feel free to give us a call, ask us on Facebook or ask Drs. Abari or Will during your next visit at our San Dimas or Diamond Bar office!
